Assessment and preparation
Before we begin, your stylist performs a focused assessment to understand how knotted, matted, or tangled the hair is and what your styling goals are. This step guides product choice and the pace of work so we can prioritize safety, comfort, and minimizing breakage while setting realistic expectations.
Because North Charleston’s humid subtropical climate and everyday commuting can contribute to tangling, our process also considers how you live and travel. We schedule quick, effective appointments along the Rivers Avenue corridor for commuters, families, and event attendees arriving before or after shifts or performances at nearby venues.
The detangling process
Stylists work methodically in manageable sections, using gentle techniques and specialized products to add slip and reduce pulling on the hair. Progress is gradual: tangles are softened and eased out section by section to limit tension, lowering the risk of breakage and keeping the client as comfortable as possible throughout.
In most cases this service fits within a standard 45 MINUTES appointment, but severity of matting can extend the time needed. Your stylist will communicate progress and, if additional work time is advisable, explain options so you can choose the balance between thorough detangling and time available.
Aftercare and styling readiness
After detangling, hair is typically easier to manage and better prepared for your chosen styling, whether you plan to blow-dry, braid, or wear a protective style. The immediate goal is increased manageability and reduced tension; longer-term care choices will affect how long the improved state lasts.
If you have severe matting or specific time constraints, discuss them at booking so we can plan appropriately. We serve North Charleston, Charleston, and nearby communities, and we understand that shift workers and event-goers along I-526 and Rivers Avenue need flexible scheduling.
